Tectonic Evolution of the Japanese Island Arc System

چکیده

■ Abstract Growth of the Japanese arc system, which has mainly taken place along the continental margin of Asia since the Permian, is the result of subduction of the ancient Pacific ocean floor. Backarc basin formation in the Tertiary shaped the presentday arc configuration. The neotectonic regime, which is characterized by strong eastwest compression, has been triggered by the eastward motion of the Amur plate in the Quaternary. The tectonic evolution of the Japanese arc system includes formation of rock assemblages common in most orogenic belts. Because the origin and presentday tectonics of these assemblages are better defined in the case of the Japanese arc system, study of the system provides useful insight into orogenesis and continental crust evolution.

Response of deep-water fore-arc systems to sea-level changes, tectonic activity and volcaniclastic input in Central America

The incipient island-arc system of southern Central America (Cretaceous early Oligoccne) is characterized by thick turbidite systems. which mainly filled inner fore-arc troughs. Outcrop data show four. second-order depositional sequences in the deep-water sedlments. The formation of these depositional sequences is strongly related to the morphotectonic evolution of the island-arc system. Each d...

Petrology, geochemistry, and petrogenesis of mafic dykes from the Kermanshah Ophiolite in Sahneh-Harsin area of Western Iran

The Kermanshah ophiolite complex is a part of the Mediterranean–Zagros–Oman Tethyan ophiolites, located in the structural–tectonic zone of western Iran in the northern part of the Zagros main thrust. Doleritic sheeted dykes are well exposed within the ophiolite in the south of Sahneh. These dykes contain high MgO, Na2O, low TiO2 (2O5, and K2O contents, and high FeOt/MgO and LILE/HFSE ratios. Th...

Role of supra-subduction zone ophiolites in the tectonic evolution of the southeastern Zagros Orogenic Belt, Iran

Ophiolitic rocks in the southeastern part of the Zagros Orogenic Belt can be separated from southwest to northeast, into two groups: the Neyriz ophiolites and the Naien–Shahrebabak–Baft ophiolites. The southeast sector of Sanandaj-Sirjan wasdelimited by the two nearly synchronous ophiolitic belts in its southwestern and northeastern margins. In this study, new ophiolitic formation models were u...

The study of the role of Quaternary tectonic and climatic factors on the geomorphological evolution of Meshkin Shahr depression fan systems

Aims & Backgrounds: The Quaternary period is considered as the interval of climatic oscillations (glacial and interglacial) coupled with tectonic episodes. Therefore, tectonics and climate have simultaneously governed the evolution of Quaternary alluvial fans. Unraveling the tectonic and climatic factors under varied depositional systems is therefore the fundamental issue in understanding the e...
